Lighten Virtual Memorials FAQ
When it comes to receiving an invitation to a life milestone event held via Zoom, such as a celebration of life, there is that inevitable twinge of, “Ugh. Zoom.” In redefining the funeral industry, Lighten is also changing the way you see Zoom. Lighten uses Zoom as the platform on which to conduct an accessible, inviting, and customizable virtual memorial service. The service can be professionally facilitated by Lighten, with introductions for each element of the memorial and the ability to mute and unmute speakers.
Virtual memorial gatherings are customizable to fit the unique identity of your loved one. Lighten can tailor the tone, content, and design to the specialness of your loved one. We also help you reflect the personal, cultural, and spiritual identity of your loved one. During the planning process, Lighten will work through details to help you create a celebration of life that is deeply personalized.
Lighten helps you design a memorial service that reflects the beliefs, traditions, and customs of your loved one. This includes both secular and religious ceremonies, so your loved one’s service is deeply personalized to them.
As an add-on to our virtual memorials package, your loved one’s virtual memorial can be a combination of live speakers and pre-recorded segments. This may be a helpful option for those who are uncomfortable speaking live in front of a group or for people who may not be able to attend the online funeral services and want to send a pre-recorded video. Lighten has helped many families tailor the right combination to honor their loved one in a unique and meaningful way. Some families also choose to pre-record their entire ceremony, and live debut the video at a chosen date and time.
Lighten can record the virtual memorial to be posted on your loved one’s Memorial Webpage. Additionally, you will receive a downloadable MP4 recording of the ceremony.
As an add-on to your planning package, Lighten can work with your onsite A/V coordinator or send a professional videographer. We can facilitate a one-way livestream or facilitate two-way communication between your in-person and virtual guests
All of Lighten’s packages include a secular officiant for the virtual memorials. Some families choose to include a family religious official in their service, and if that is the case we are happy to work with an officiant of your choosing. We work with families of many different cultural & faith backgrounds. If you need help finding an officiant who can lead your family’s specific traditions, we can help. These officiants may charge their own fees on top of Lighten’s planning package.
Lighten works with families all across the country. If you are planning an entirely virtual service, we help you gather your family and friends who are joining from their own individual devices. If you have an in-person component to your service, Lighten can send a videographer with A/V equipment to your venue, to allow virtual guests to participate via livestream.
Many families who choose to gather in-person still choose to provide a virtual option for guests who cannot attend in-person due to travel difficulties, health concerns, or previous commitments. If this is the case, Lighten can provide a videographer with professional A/V equipment to record or livestream the funeral, memorial, or celebration of life.
